Feast of Festivals Church Activities Church & Churchyard Bellringers

Welcome to the St Michael’s Church section of the Spreyton website.

The Rector is usually at St Michael’s for about a quarter of an hour at 1.00pm on Wednesdays during school term time.  He would be delighted to say hello to anyone at that time and to arrange a longer meeting subsequently if desired.

We, Rector, ministry team and church members, aim to maintain the tradition of worship and involvement with the community and the wider church which has been established in Spreyton for so many generations.  We also aim to maintain the church and churchyard – which involves a lot of voluntary help and fairly heavy expense even when there are no emergency problems - so that future generations can enjoy them as we are able to do. We are grateful to villagers and visitors for all the support they give us in so many ways and welcome your involvement in worship, care for  our church and churchyard and in our other activities.

The parish of Spreyton is one of the Whiddon group of parishes.  St Michael’s Church is one of six  in the group.  The other parishes  are Chagford, Drewsteignton, Hittisleigh, Gidleigh and Throwleigh.

Our Rector is the Reverend Prebendary Anthony Geering.

The parishes are also served by an Assistant Priest, the Reverend John Withers and by four Readers.

There is a church newsletter, published every two months, which contains names and telephone numbers of clergy and church officers, information about services  and village events in Spreyton, Drewsteignton and Hittisleigh as well as other interesting items.  This is available free, and can be delivered.

If you live away from the village and would like to receive the newsletter (a charge will be made) please contact John Williams , PCC Secretary, at wilspr@tiscali.co.uk (telephone 01647 231427). John can also give you information, if you ask, about how you can contribute financially to the maintenance of the church and / or churchyard or other aspects of our work.

Information about Spreyton and the sister parishes can also be obtained from the Parish Office (telephone 01647 432265,  e-mail whiddonparishes@chagford2265.fsnet.co.uk )  The office can usually be contacted by telephone on weekdays between 9.00am and 12.30pm

We offer a warm invitation to villagers and visitors to come to any service.  If you are a communicant member of your own church, whether this is Church of England or another Trinitarian church,  we will be delighted if you choose to take Communion with us.  You are of course welcome at the Communion services whether or not you choose to take Communion.

St Michael’s is normally open every day from about 10.00am to about 5.00pm – or dusk if earlier.
