Primary School

Spreyton Primary School is a tiny, rural, traditional village school, housed in the original Victorian School House, and we currently have 24 pupils split between 2 whole Key Stage classes.

Because of the small numbers of pupils we are more like one big family and the children get a lot of individual attention from the caring and dedicated staff.

It also means a good ratio of pupil to resources throughout the school; for example, the pupils have access to 6 PCs (1:4) and we are planning to purchase some lap-tops for whole class teaching in the near future.

Teaching covers all the normal curriculum areas plus we are able to experience lots of things as either whole class or school projects. Some of the “extras” we have managed this term are :- Whole school visit to Torquay Museum to experience their “Jewish Way of Life and Victorian Farmhouse” Exhibitions; Maths Week with visiting experts and Family Maths Challenge afternoon; Book Week with parents dropping in to read us their favourite story, and a day when we “Drop Everything And Read”; and for Science Week Key Stage 2 will visit the local Grasslands and Environmental Research Centre and there will be a Science-based Family Challenge afternoon.

We actively encourage parents and friends to share their talents by working with us on specific projects or to drop in at any time. Arrangements can be made for a guided tour around the school and a chance to speak to staff and pupils just by phoning our school administrator, Helen on 01647 231321.
