Village Play Area

Since taking on the Spreyton Play area project in the last few months, I am pleased to announce we now have a detailed plan of what the Spreyton Village Trust has agreed to be built in the playground. I have received a quotation from a local firm called 'Play line' who will install the equipment to BS EN 1176 standard with adequate safety surfaces and also overhaul the existing slide and swings, adding safety surfaces where required.

(Photo showing an example of the new play equipment)

The new equipment will be an all singing and dancing climbing frame which will include three towers with floor heights of 1m, l-2m and 1.8m, a 1,8 metre wavy slide, clatter bridge, cargo net, ladder bars climbing wall, ring swing, overhead ladder and a 0X0 panel (giant noughts & crosses) and also a new springy to replace the old wooden horse.

That was the easy bit, now comes the hard bit, to achieve the above project we will need approx £18,000, we currently have £5000 in the kitty, kindly designated by the Spreyton Village Trust and are awaiting confirmation of a further grant for £1500. I am also in the process of completing 3 grant applications for further funding. We also have a couple of community related fundraising events, one of which will be a dance - this will be held on the 27th September in the village hall, we have a local live band booked called 'Wishful Thinking' and also a few different twists to the night (as yet to be confirmed). Tickets & raffle tickets will be on sale at Spreyton Village stores, Tom Cobley Tavern and Spreyton Hairdressing Company as soon as the evening's twists have been confirmed. We would also very much appreciate donations of raffle prizes for the evening. It's a definite date for your diary.

Should anybody wish to help raise funds or make a donation for the play area, which I hope you will agree will greatly complement the excellent village hall we have and make a fantastic and safe place to play which the children of Spreyton deserve, please do not hesitate to contact me on zoe@uncle-toms.fsnet.co.uk Zoe Smith

Spreyton Play area Update

After applying for three grants in October, I am very please to announce that The Spreyton Village (George Lambert Memorial) Trust has been awarded £5000, from The Lottery’s “Awards For All” Scheme, this is the largest grant that they will award, which is fantastic news.  We have also been promised a grant of £2500 from a local government based office (subject to some form filling!); we are still waiting on the third but should know shortly after Christmas.  Hopefully by Summer 2004, Spreyton Village will be the proud new owners of a New Children’s Play area.

Should anybody wish to make a donation to the New Spreyton Play area Fund, please contact me (Zoë) zoe@uncle-toms.fsnet.co.uk

Spreyton Village Trust Dance 27th September 2003

Once again the village of Spreyton showed the true sense of supporting the community, on the 27 September, Spreyton Village Trust held a dance in aid of The New Spreyton Play area.  A Great evening was enjoyed by all, a superb local band ‘Wishful Thinking’ featuring our very own Nick Robinson on sax provided the music!  And once everyone had worked up an appetite dancing the night away, Isobel Brook & Amanda Dickinson had a fabulous feast of Dartmoor Happy Hog dogs waiting for the ravenous revellers, many thanks to them both for their hard work & support through-out the evening.  Many thanks also to The Spreyton Post Office & Stores, The Spreyton Hairdressing Company, Tom Cobley Tavern and to all those who supported a wonderful evening, which has helped raise a grand total of £500.00 which will be going straight into the New Spreyton Play area fund.  Well done everyone.
