Spreyton 2005 This village north of Whiddon Down lies on a ridge and has a pleasant views south towards Dartmoor and evidently you are supposed to be able to see from the Church Tower the Bristol Channel to the north and the English Channel to the south. There is much local history attached to this village by way of Uncle Tom Cobbley and with the help of the local postmaster we were able to find his grave! The church and churchyard with its avenue of Lime trees were beautifully kept and we were very impressed the way they had noticed the purple orchids in the grass and they had been manicured to make them show up against the green grass. It was most tranquil walking through the village and the footpaths were well marked. It would have been nice to know where they went! On the whole the properties Were well cared for, just some that looked a bit neglected. It was good to see the school in operation and as we approached to the very well endowed Playing Fields that they were being put to good use by the pupils The Playing Fields and Village Hall were in excellent order and the facilities all in very good condition and we are sure are a great asset to the village. A charming Post Office and village shop gave a very good feel to the place with their range of merchandise including lovely pot plants for sale. I can see us going back to the village to do a walk and make use of the Inn one day, as we were too late on this occasion!
