Spreyton: 1086 Espreitona, 1169 Espreyton, 1216 Epreyton, 1346 Sprayton (the farm in the Brushwood land) 3644 acres. Connected with Cowick priory until 1464 then attached to Tavistock until Henry v111 Suppression until 1539 in hand of John Russel until 1801 and sold by Duke of Bedford to landowners in the parish - Richard Holland held living followed by the Doveton family and then the Bishop of Exeter in 1916

Vicars: 1316-7 Thomas Pruett, 1336 Thomas Squyer, 1367 William Baker,
1405 John Gyffard, 1433 John Lane, 1438 Prigntius Lewys, 1445 H le Mayne.

Oldest grave: Mary Tremlett - 1618

One Saxon and one Norman font

Can see both channels from the tower - 735.2 feet above sea level

Only 3 granite altars in England, one in Spreyton

Murrays handbook of Devon says there is a 40th girth tree but could only
trace one of 13ft.
