It is with sadness that the Committee would like to remember Jean Underhill a long serving exhibitor, supporter and friend of the show, who died very fittingly last yesr on Flower Show Day.

ALL ITEMS OF FOOD TO BE COVERED

 

BOILED CIDER FRUIT CAKE  (2008)

4 oz marg

6 oz brown sugar

14 oz mixed fruit

8 oz cider

½ heaped tsp. Spice

2 eggs

8 oz S.R. Flour

Put marg, sugar, fruit, spice and cider into a pan and bring to boil.

Allow to cool (best overnight)

When cold, add eggs and flour.

Mix well and pour into a lined 8" round tin.

Bake in centre of oven 180*C for 1½ hours.

(Lower heat to 150*C after ½ hour and cover top of cake)

Leave to cool in tin

 

TEA BREAD

12 tbs strong cold tea

1 lb Mixed Fruit (no cherries)

6 oz Dark Brown Sugar

1 egg (size 3) lightly beaten

1 oz melted margarine

9 oz plain flour sieved with ½ level tsp bicarb

Put tea, fruit and sugar in a bowl, cover and leave overnight.

Stir in egg and melted margarine. Fold in flour and bicarb.

Put in a greased and lined 2 lb loaf tin.

Smooth top of mixture.

Bake at 180*C (adjust for fan ovens) 350*F Gas mark 4 on the middle

shelf for 1½-2 hours.

Leave in tin for 2-3 minutes.

Turn out onto a rack.

RULES FOR EXHIBITORS

1    A Competitor may enter any number of exhibits in a Class.

2    The Committee reserves the right to visit any Exhibitor's garden.

3    Exhibits must be the property of the Exhibitor and have been grown on his own garden or allotment.

4    Exhibits may be staged on Friday evening between 7.30 and 9.00, or between 8.00 and 10 a.m. on the day of the Show. After 10.00 a.m. only those officially engaged will be allowed in the Hall.

5    Unless otherwise stated, an exhibit must consist of one variety only.

6    Competitors must supply the necessary plates and vases. Jars may be used without prejudice to the Exhibitor's chances. All eggs to be shown on a plate.

7    Prizes may be withheld if entries are considered undeserving of the prize offered.

8    The Judge's decision is final.

9    Any protest must be made to the Secretary by 3.00 p.m. and must be accompanied by a deposit of 15p which will be refunded if the protest is upheld, but not otherwise.

10   No exhibit may be altered or removed between the hours of 10.00 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. except by permission of the Committee.

11   Exhibits must be removed by 5.00 p.m. but it is hoped that many Exhibitors' will allow their exhibit to be sold for the benefit of the funds.

12   All exhibits, personal property, etc. will be left at the risk of the exhibitor, the Committee accepting no responsibility for loss or damage.

13   Prize money will be paid at 4.00 p.m. on the day of the Show.

14   All Vegetables must be washed and trimmed.

15   All Class Cards must be left with exhibits.

16   Craft articles previously exhibited at Spreyton Flower Show will be disqualified.
