SPREYTON FLOWER SHOW – SATURDAY  18TH   AUGUST

 

Although this is months in advance we need to give all the keen gardeners, flower growers, plenty of notice!  This show has been running since the late 1950’s so it is well established and one of our biggest annual fundraising events for the Village Trust.

 It is not just a “flower show” there are classes for all to enter.  Below is just a sample from our 2011 Show of things that can be entered.  There is a children’s section that ranges from 5-7 yrs, 8-11 yrs and 12-15.  These classes alter each year to coincide with the topics that are being studied in the school.

ALL ITEMS OF FOOD TO BE COVERED

 

* BOILED CIDER FRUIT CAKE

4 oz marg

6 oz brown sugar

14 oz mixed fruit

8 oz cider

½ heaped tsp. Spice

2 eggs

8 oz S.R. Flour

Put marg, sugar, fruit, spice and cider into a pan and bring to boil.

Allow to cool {best overnight)

When cold, add eggs and flour.

Mix well and pour into a lined 8" round tin.

Bake in centre of oven 180*C for 1½ hours.

(Lower heat to 150*C after ½ hour and cover top of cake)

Leave to cool in tin

 

* BANANA AND NUT TEA BREAD

7 oz S R Flour

¼  tsp Bi-carb

4 oz Light Brown Soft Sugar

4 oz Raisins

2 large very ripe bananas mashed

Pinch salt

3 oz Soft Marg

1 Egg size 2 beaten

3oz Chopped Walnuts

METHOD

Heat oven 180*C/350*F/Gas Mark 4, Grease and line 1 lb. Loaf tin Sift flour, salt, bi-carb into bowl, add all other ingredients, beat well. Add milk if too dry. Spoon into a tin. Bake in centre of oven for about an hour till firm in the middle, cool for 10 mins, turn onto rack.

 

Flower Show Entry Form

RULES FOR EXHIBITORS

1    A Competitor may enter any number of exhibits in a Class.

2    The Committee reserves the right to visit any Exhibitor's garden.

3    Exhibits must be the property of the Exhibitor and have been grown on his own garden or allotment.

4    Exhibits may be staged on Friday evening between 7.30 and 9.00, or between 8.00 and 10 a.m. on the day of the Show. After 10.00 a.m. only those officially engaged will be allowed in the Hall.

5    Unless otherwise stated, an exhibit must consist of one variety only.

6    Competitors must supply the necessary plates and vases. Jars may be used without prejudice to the Exhibitor's chances. All eggs to be shown on a plate.

7    Prizes may be withheld if entries are considered undeserving of the prize offered.

8    The Judge's decision is final.

9    Any protest must be made to the Secretary by 3.00 p.m. and must be accompanied by a deposit of 15p which will be refunded if the protest is upheld, but not otherwise.

10   No exhibit may be altered or removed between the hours of 10.00 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. except by permission of the Committee.

11   Exhibits must be removed by 5.00 p.m. but it is hoped that many Exhibitors' will allow their exhibit to be sold for the benefit of the funds.

12   All exhibits, personal property, etc. will be left at the risk of the exhibitor, the Committee accepting no responsibility for loss or damage.

13   Prize money will be paid at 4.00 p.m. on the day of the Show.

14   All Vegetables must be washed and trimmed.

15   All Class Cards must be left with exhibits.

16   Craft articles previously exhibited at Spreyton Flower Show will be disqualified.
