Feast of Festivals Church Activities Church & Churchyard Bellringers

Services and other activities planned for 2003

There is a service at Spreyton on nearly every Sunday through the year.  The present pattern of services is as follows

1st Sundays of the month, Easter Day and Christmas Day  - Holy Communion       (Book of Common Prayer) at 9.30am

    2nd Sundays  - Evensong at 6.30pm

3rd Sundays  -  Holy Communion (Common Worship) at 11.00am

    4th Sundays  - Mattins at 11.00am

5th Sundays  -  Mattins at 11.00am (subject to change)

Additionally there is a candle-lit Carol Service (usually on the Sunday before Christmas) which is always very well attended  and seems to be much appreciated, and a Harvest Festival service (usually on the last Sunday in September)

There are sometimes changes from this pattern of services for a variety of reasons.  Up-to-date information can be seen in the Church porch or on the notice board outside the shop

The church has an enthusiastic team of bell-ringers who ring before services and on significant occasions and take part in competitions – often winning trophies.

This year we are planning with our friends from Spreyton Methodist Church to arrange four United Family Services.  Two of these, on 30 March (Mothering Sunday) and 12 October, will be at 11.00am at St Michael’s and the other two, on 1 June and 7 December will be in the Village Hall.  We look forward to welcoming family members of all ages to the fellowship of these services.  Put them in your diary now!

Other important events in 2003 will be –

-         Friday 6th, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June Flower Festival in Church  (Theme – A Feast of Festivals).  Please visit between 10.00am and 5.00pm on Friday and Saturday or between 10.30am and 5.00pm Sunday.  Refreshments in the Village Hall.  Plant stall.  A Flower Festival is a ‘first’ for Spreyton  (unless someone knows better) and a number of village groups will be organising displays, as will our friends from St Andrew’s Hittisleigh. This should be a memorable occasion which will bring many people’s talents together in church.  There will be two services on Sunday 8 June – one at 9.30am which will aim to involve children as well as other age groups and a Songs of Praise service at 6.30pm.  Please come along and join in.

Saturday 21st June – St Michael’s Fayre and Bellringing Festival on the Village Green outside the Church.  Variety of stalls, bowling, strawberry teas at the Tom Cobley etc.  A fun day for all!  The 2003 Fayre marks the 40th anniversary of these Fayres and we shall try to make it at least as special as usual if not a little more so!
